Health Professional Loans

Health Professional Loan (HPL)
- Eligibility
- Full-time — not provisional — in the D.D.S. or Pharm.D. program
- Demonstrate financial need according to rules set forth by U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
- Fixed 5% interest rate
- No interest accrues during school
- Repayment begins 12 months following termination of at least half-time enrollment
- Payments are made to UMKC
- File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Students must also utilize the Direct Data Exchange (DDX) on the FAFSA to retrieve and transfer 2022 IRS income information. All professional students are considered independent for FAFSA purposes: nonetheless, federal regulations require that parent information be considered for the purpose of awarding HPSL funds. The parent information will be requested on the HPL Application.
- Upload the fully completed and signed Health Professional Loan Application through the Secure Document Uploader.
- For priority consideration, please submit the HPL Application and other documents by the priority deadline indicated on the application. For 2024-2025, the deadline for submission is May 15th.
Health Professional Nursing Student Loans
- Eligibility
- Full-time student in LPN, RN, DN, ADN, BSN, MSN, Ph.D., NDP or Ed.D. program
- Enrolled or accepted in an institution within Missouri approved by the Missouri Nursing Board
- Missouri resident
- Under no conflicting service obligation, with the exception of service in the National Guard or military reserve
- 0% interest rate
- Loan may be forgiven through service obligation
- Apply directly to Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services and notify us if approved
Loans for Disadvantaged Students (LDS)
- Eligibility
- Full-time — not provisional — in the D.D.S., Pharm.D. or B.A./M.D. program
- Demonstrate financial need according to rules set forth by U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
- Fixed 5% interest rate
- No interest accrues during school
- Repayment begins 12 months following termination of at least half-time enrollment
- Payments are made to UMKC

Nurse Faculty Loan Program (NFLP)
- Eligibility
- Graduate nursing student in MSN, DNP or Ph.D. program
- There are three options in order to fulfill the requirement for the program for four consecutive years upon graduation
- Complete six credits of Nurse Educator courses at UMKC SoNHS
- Complete the NFLP application by contacting Dr. Barber- barberch@umkc.edu for the MSN or DNP programs or Dr. Lasiter- LasiterR@umkc.edu for further information and an application.
Primary Care Loan (PCL)
- Eligibility
- Full-time in B.A./M.D. program
- Demonstrate financial need according to rules set forth by U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
- Provide parental income data and signature on the PCL Application
- Commitment to working in primary care fields, to avoid high interest rate penalties
- Fixed 5% interest rate
- No interest accrues during school
- Repayment begins 12 months following termination of at least half-time enrollment
- Payments are made to UMKC
- File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

- Eligibility
- Full-time D.D.S. or dental hygiene student
- Missouri resident
- Loan may be forgiven through service obligation
- Complete the application process and notify us if approved
